Watch Us Make a Cigar

The life of a cigar begins at least 2-3 years before it is ready for the blender and the roller. Sometimes the tobacco is even 7 ears old before it is ready. Each year as the harvest of the tobacco is made, our team at Dona Elba begins looking for the correct source of tobacco. We work very hard developing new blends which sometimes takes a year of mixing and matching tobacco.

Click the link below to see how we construct our perfect blend beginning with the binder....adding filler is the correct places and amounts specified by the formula....this is followed by adding the wrapper. Along the way, all of our cigars are draw tested for just the correct draw.

Art of Making a Cigar

Now that you have seen some of the great premium Capa (Wrapper) we use for Dona Elba Cigars, let's take a look at the next type of tobacco we use to make that great tasting cigar from Nicaragua.

Capote

The binder is referred to in Nicaragua as the Capote. We have gone to great efforts to find and use the Capote that melds well with our premium cigars. Although, the binder does not ordinarily contribute to the taste of your cigar but is very important to help control the burn rate while you are enjoying your relaxed time with your cigar. We do have a strong feeling that the Capote we have chosen for our blends does add to the quality of the premium cigar.

Making Cigars - Wrapper

Cigar Wrapper (Capa)

The making of a premium cigar begins with the planting of the seed in the green houses and growing until ready for planting in the tobacco fields of Nicaragua. There are over 2000 hands that touch the tobacco before Don Elba Cigars is ready to seek the finest tobacco. The choice of the premium tobacco is shared between Jennifer Sandino and our Master Blenders. We also use a tobacconist in Nicaragua who has sourced the tobacco we use since 1996. There are many farms to visit and much to consider when selecting the tobacco used by Doña Elba Premium Cigars.
